Urban decay naked heat Eyeshadow palette

So hey.... long time no see I know. But hopefully now uni is out of the way I should be able to post twice a week like I used to. But I thought I would wait and relaunch the blog with probably the summers hottest launch (see what I did there?) Urban Decay's new heat collection has been everywhere since they announced it and I was so lucky to get invited to a launch party so I could reserve and play with the palette before launch. I bought one, which gives you an idea of my thoughts, but I thought I would take some photos and just talk you through everything.

outer box and packaging

The palette includes 12 eyeshadows with a mixture of shimmers and mattes in more warm, red based hues. I think the packaging is lovely and felt very weighty in my hands. The front panel gives me major 80's vibes and I love it. Honestly I just sat and stared at it for a while when I unboxed it. Inside the palette you have your normal urban decay naked palette layout of the 12 shades with the names at the bottom of their pans, a nice big mirror and a double ended brush. The brush is a nice touch, in my other naked palettes I hardly use the brush, however this one has a flatter almost packing side and the other has a crease brush which is amazing, it tapers off in the just the right way to get right into the crease and is just dense enough to lay down some shadow but still fluffy enough to blend it out beautifully.

I did swatches of the shadows on my arms and I'll take you through them shadow by shadow, the swatches are in blocks of six shades.

Shades left to right - Ounce, Chaser, Sauced, Low Blow, Lumbre and He Devil.

Ounce is the first shade in the palette and you can only just see it on my fair skin. Its a light warm toned beige with a pearl shimmer and makes an amazing inner corner or browbone highlight.
Chaser is light peachy brown matte with warm undertones.`
Sauced is a orange light brown matte with warm undertones.
Low Blow is a orange medium brown matte with warm undertones (are you getting the hint it's warm toned yet?)

Lumbre is a coral red with a pearl sheen, it looks amazing on the lids in more of a halo look.
He Devil is a medium/dark red brown matte with warm undertones.

Shades swatches left to right - Dirty Talk, Scorched, Cayenne, En Fuego, Ashes and Ember.

Dirty talk is a medium coppery brown with a frosted sheen.
Scorched is a dark brown with red undertones with a metallic finish and looks amazing applied all over the lid with a bit of fix plus.

Cayenne is a dark brown with warm undertones and a matte finish.
En Fuego is a dark red plum with a matte finish, this goes onto to the lid much better than swatched but does require slightly more patience when blending it out.
Ashes is plum shade with a matte finish. This shade is the only one in the palette that disappointed me. Its very hard to get an even application, but does work well layered over other colour in the outer V to give a more smoked look.
Ember is a deep bronze with hints of plum with a frosted sheen and it applies so well.

So the colours are lovely and overall they apply pretty well... there is just one problem... I find making a full look with this a little difficult. I find myself occasionally dipping into other palettes for shades like dark warm browns, blacks, a gold shimmer, but I can make some lovely eye looks with this palette alone I just feel like it was missing a couple of shades. A slight other problem I have is this some of the colours are similar, not identical like some people are claiming, but they are similar meaning you need to be careful when applying them or your nice slight defined crease can go full messy cut crease look before you know it.

So final thoughts?
I would be repurchase 100%. I have nothing else in my collection like this and the palette is beautiful but it does have its faults and I feel like that should be acknowledged too. Some shadows are harder to work with and I definitely wouldn't like to think I was a totally beginner and buying this as one of my first palettes. It is also worth mentioning that this is becoming a permanent part of the urban decay line so don't panic if you find you can't get it straight away... it is coming back!

You can buy the palette here for £39.50.

Till next time...
Love Kim x
